SUMMARY:Summer Game Night with Thirty\, Birdy & Thriving
DESCRIPTION:You asked for another game night\, so we’re delivering! Bird-lovers between the ages of 20 and 40(ish) are invited to attend a bird-nerdy game night on the evening of Wednesday\, July 15 at the Holliday Park Nature Center. We’ll be in the classroom where there will be multiple tables set up to play Wingspan and other nature-themed games\, along with refreshments. \n  \nSince the game allows five players max\, we want you to bring your copies too! Our focus is Wingspan\, but feel free to bring any bird- or nature-themed tabletop or strategy games you have and would be willing to teach to your table. If you’ve never played or don’t remember how to play\, don’t worry! The evening is meant to be highly casual\, and competition won’t be too intense (okay\, we can’t promise that part). \n  \nThis program is limited to 20 participants and registration is required. Priority registration for ABAS members until June 6\, but non-members should sign up early\, as once registration is open\, it’s first come first serve. TBT is designed for birders aged 20-40ish to make friends who share their hobby. \n  \nTo register\, email Olivia Bautch at falcon_515@outlook.com\, and indicate 1) if you are a member or not\, AND 2) if you have a game you will be bringing to share. \n  \nWhat: Summer Game Night with Thirty\, Birdy & Thriving \nWhen: Wednesday\, July 15\, 2026 from 6:30-8:30 pm \nWhere: Holliday Park Nature Center (in the classroom) \nRegister: falcon_515@outlook.com

SUMMARY:Summer Wetlands with Thirty\, Birdy & Thriving
DESCRIPTION:What better way is there to spend a summer day than at the waterfront? Our June event is giving water\, sunshine\, open water birds\, and icy treats at undeniably the most prolific and accessible birding spot in the Indianapolis region\, Eagle Creek Park. \n  \nWe’ll meet up with Chandler Roberts\, former ABAS Birdathon Chair and our bird guide for the morning\, at the Eagle Creek Park Marina. From there we might explore any of several wetland spots\, based on what’s been observed recently. These may include: the North Loop\, Coffer Dam\, and Starling Nature Sanctuary\, which usually bring herons\, egrets\, and terns to their mudflats\, and many breeding songbirds and warblers to the forests. We can also try for the Neotropic Cormorant for anyone who has not yet seen one. \n  \nAfter an hour and a half or so of birding\, we’ll head back to the Marina with some sorbet to hang out. Several pairs of binoculars will be available for those who need them. We will be walking most of the field trip on various trail surfaces which include rough gravel\, grass\, bridges\, and dirt paths with roots/rocks. Coffer Dam has one hill with several turns before the gravel path. Most of the field trip will be under direct sunlight\, so bring hats\, water\, sunscreen\, and dress accordingly. \n  \nTBT is back in the city\, so we have room for lots of friends! This field trip is limited to 20 participants and registration is required. Priority registration for ABAS members until June 6\, but non-members should sign up early\, as once registration is open\, it’s first come first serve. TBT is designed for birders aged 20-40ish to make friends who share their hobby. \n  \nWhen you sign up\, please indicate if you are a member or not and include your phone number. The phone number is in case of cancellation due to weather. To register\, email Olivia Bautch at falcon_515@outlook.com. \n  \nWhat: Summer Wetlands with Thirty\, Birdy & Thriving \nWhen: Saturday\, June 20\, 2026 from 9:00-11:00 am \nWhere: Eagle Creek Park\, meet at the Marina  \nRegister: falcon_515@outlook.com

SUMMARY:Global Big Day at Prophetstown SP with Thirty\, Birdy & Thriving
DESCRIPTION:The best way to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day\, also known as Global Big Day\, is counting birds (—for science) with your peeps. And since it is peak spring migration\, your trusty TBT leader Olivia Bautch is taking you out of the region to meet up with outstanding Tippecanoe County birder\, Vivek Govind Kumar\, who will lead this field trip at Prophetstown State Park. \n  \nProphetstown SP is home to interpretive history\, camping\, and aquatics\, but we’re here for the sprawling grasslands\, wetlands\, and young forest tracts that draw both exciting migrants and vulnerable breeding birds. Blue Grosbeak\, Dickcissel\, Sedge Wren\, Yellow-breasted Chat\, Northern Bobwhite\, Yellow-billed Cuckoo\, and Ring-necked Pheasant are just some of the special species across stops at this park. \n  \nSeveral pairs of binoculars will be available for those who need them. We may caravan between stops. Trail surfaces include wide paved trails (find access information here) and crushed gravel paths along the grassland\, and narrow dirt trails with many inclines/declines in the forest/wetland. Our route and stops will vary based on day-of bird productivity\, and more information will be emailed to participants closer to the event. We will do our best to ensure any special needs are met\, so do not hesitate to ask about accommodations! \n  \nThe Thirty\, Birdy & Thriving group is designed for bird-lovers age 20-40\, as a space to observe birds with new friends from the Central Indiana community. To register\, email Olivia Bautch at falcon_515@outlook.com\, stating if you are a ABAS member or not. \nThis program is limited to 12 participants and is free\, but there is a gate fee per vehicle for the state park. To lower the fee for everyone\, we will meet at the shops off I-65 in West Lafayette at 7:50am and carpool about 10 minutes into the park. Please bring $2 to contribute to the gate fee for your car.\n\nPre-registration is required. ABAS members get priority registration until April 25\, but non-members should sign up early\, as once registration is open\, it is first come first serve.\n  \nWhat: Global Big Day at Prophetstown SP with Thirty\, Birdy & Thriving \nWhen: Saturday\, May 9\, 2026 from 8:00-10:00 am \nWhere: Prophetstown State Park. 5545 Swisher Road\, West Lafayette\, IN 47906 \nRegister: falcon_515@outlook.com
